Twins!!

A somewhat distant cousin of mine just recently had twin boys! Seth and Reed were born about a month early, and other than some minor problems, they are doing great! My Mimi wanted to get the boys something special from her, so she asked me to make a couple of blankets! Again, I had free reign....but since I got to make two of them, it was ok :). I didn't want the blankets to be exactly the same so I decided to make one of them brown and blue, and the other one brown and green and use some of the same fabrics. I think they turned out pretty dang cute! Instead of putting the names or the initials on the back, I decided to put the first letter of their names in the very center square of the blanket. I have never done this before so I thought I would try a new little look out, and I like it! Here ya go!

Church Service Auction

Our ward's Relief Society had a service auction a couple of months ago. We all entered something that we could do for someone else in our ward and wrote them on cards. I entered a personalized baby blanket, because that's about the best I have to offer at this point in my life. Some people entered things like "I will bring a dinner over to your house one night", piano lessons, sewing lessons, scrapbooking lessons....the list goes on. I wasn't able to attend the auction but the winner of my blanket was super excited to let me know! This is her 4th baby, so she wasn't too picky about the colors or patterns. Which was a blessing and a curse, lol. I wanted to make sure that I made something that she would love.....but I had free reign. So I would decide on something and then feel like it just wasn't right. BUT, I finally got it figured out. AND here is her blanket!

Please look past the brown background....and part of my carpet in the picture :)

Ethan, JJM & Colton

I had a few friends of mine with baby showers coming up and they asked me if I could make some blankets for them. Carol ordered a blanket for a soon to be sweet little boy named Ethan. She emailed me a link to his bedding...and I went from there. I thought about making my own little monkeys to match the bedding, but I decided to leave them off. I think it turned out well! The second blanket was for my best friend Lauren! She has a friend that will be having a baby in December. Her friends husband plays for a men's baseball team called "Crush", and from what I hear, they are pretty die hard about this team. I love it. SOO I got really creative with this one. She wanted to include the "C" in the blanket somehow...and have a few onesies made as well. I added a strip of blizzard fleece to the top and bottom of this blanket....which I loved! I may start doing it to all of them. We'll see. The third blanket was for an old college friend whose friend was having a baby soon, Colton. She wanted something that wasn't really busy, so just 2 or 3 patterns, not my usuall 5 or 6 :). Well enough talking....here are the pictures!

Other businesses that I LOVE to follow!

I have been getting lots of requests on Facebook lately to "become a fan" of this page, and "follow" this blog....etc.. And I started going through everything and there are a LOT of people that I went to school with that are going down the road of entrepreneurship, as well as myself. It's so amazing to go look at every one's websites and pages and blogs, and see what they have come up with. I never ever in my dreams thought that I would start a business selling custom baby stuff....or any business at all for that matter. So needless to say, I am pretty proud of myself, I stepped out of my box and with the help of some friends and the encouragement from my loving husband and family....Laynie's Sewtique was born. And it's doing so well. I thought I would take a little time out this morning and mention some other wonderful businesses from old friends and classmates....there is QUITE the variety to look at :)  I encourage everyone to follow these blogs! Everyone is so creative! ENJOY!

Ashley makes the CUTEST little girl dresses and other outfits. She has an ETSY page which is super easy to go shop from (I think there is even some free shipping at the moment)! Ashley likes to keep her stuff super affordable for everyone! I love all the little outfits that she makes for her sweet Emma.

Leslie does interior design, party planning, and SO much more!! Spend some time checking out the shop page on her website, she makes BEAUTIFUL holiday wreaths that have a modern twist....not your average plastic flower decor :)

  • Anne (Greenhaw) Shields- "Scents of Elegance" (if you don't have Facebook you can't check this link out....but they make yummy smelling candles that I LOVE!!!)

Anne took Scents of Elegance over from her aunt....she, along with her sister Lacey, make these candles themselves and can match almost any scent that you love. They have an awesome line of holiday scents...I'm actually burning Autumn Berries right now and I seriously love it. The candles are so inexpensive as well ($10.00), and they burn for 55 hours!!

Pretty self explanatory! Send him a message or email though if you have started your own company, he has a great Networking group that meets every Thursday at the Hilton in Rockwall. I haven't been able to check it out yet, but I can't wait until I can.

I haven't gotten to taste any of the cakes by Ashley, but I love reading her blog and looking at all the pictures! Everything is beautiful! You need to at least check out her blog.

Kelly's pictures are AWESOME!! There isn't much else to say other than that :) and her healthy eating journal is fun to read!! It seriously has made me watch what I put in my mouth for the past few days. Check it out!

I asked Christina to make Wylee's hair clip for her first birthday outfit...I should be getting it any day now. Her clips are SO original! I fell in love with them instantly! And she is extremely affordable!

  • Evan & Katie (Cameron) Kaufmann- "Detail Films" , they've done some great music videos, among other stuff!
The Kaufmanns are amazing! I haven't gotten to check out everything that they've done, but recently I have seen a lot about the Wade Bowen music video that they just did. It's awesome!

  • Rhea Ortamond- "Rhea's Ice Cream Shop"...coming soon, there isn't a web page for this yet as far as I know, but she did sign a lease!

Welcome to Laynie's Sewtique!

Welcome!! since not EVERYONE is on Facebook and I do not have a website running yet, I thought a blog would be a good way to show my work and let everyone get a little taste of what Laynie's Sewtique is all about! Since I mainly do custom pieces, I do not have a lot of pre-made inventory to show. But as I make new onesies, and blankets, etc., I will do my very best to post about them. This page will probably be under construction for quite some time, seeing as how I have 2 babies, and a business to run as well a home to maintain :) So bear with me...I think it will be worth it. Enjoy!!
